Jazz Bash by the Bay in Monterey

In March of 2015 the Monterey Jazz Bash by the Bay was something to behold. With familiar faces, and new alike, the music was outstanding and the personalities bigger than life itself.

Jazz Bash by the Bay

Jazz is just about as American as apple pie and baseball. There's wasn't any apple pie that I could see, but there were plenty of "fouls" called by world famous Washboarder Ralf Reynolds.
Anyone who's seen him perform knows exactly what I'm talking about. He blows a short whistle that's attached to his instrument apparatus when something is slightly amiss.
This schtick of his, adds to the whole experience of embracing the combination of jazz and comedy on so many levels it's quite hard to describe.

In addition to Ralf Reynolds of the Ellis Island Boys, there were many other jazz musicians, ranging from early ragtime with the Monterey Maple Leaf Club, to more contemporary jazz artists such as Shelly Burns, Bill Dendle, and Eddie Erickson.
And, of course, there was the staple of traditional,
or Trad-Jazz,  to give us Our Kind Of Music, a plenty.

This particular jazz festival was held in the beautiful city of Monterey, California.
Nestled along the serene Pacific coast, Monterey is home to Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf,
and the John Steinbeck Aquarium.
